Far Mulberry

Wreck, Reef, Scenic, Suitable for all, Snorkel/Basic Freediver, Level 1 Freediving.

A Scheduled Monument since 2019, the Far Mulberry is the remains of a Phoenix A Caisson. It is just one of the many remains of the Mulberry Harbours used for the D-Day Landings in this area.

After more than 60 years under the water this is now a wonderful reef approximately 60m longs by 17m wide. The North end, is the best preserved and is covered in white and orange dead men's fingers, 3 types of hard coral,  various anemones and several patches of jewel anemones. Working your way around the reef on your dive, you can expect to encounter schools of pouting, pollack, bass, wrasse, poor cod and bib. There is normally a large school of bib at the bottom of the shot line waiting to greet you. You can also find conger eels, tompot blennies, gobies, crabs and lobsters in addition to seasonal visitors like the cuttlefish and lumpsuckers.

The Far Mulberry lies Just under 3 miles from East Beach and has an average depth of 10m. It is a suitable site for all levels of diver.

Hazard :- The Far Mulberry is made of reinforced concrete. This is decaying so watch out for sharp spikes.

Dive Sussex 59 (Far Mulberry), 61 (Landing Craft) and 62 (Cuckoo)  - these three sites are joined by a rope trail; approximately 45 minutes a round trip.
