Wreck, Deep, Experienced
This is a Type VII C German U-Boat that was commanded by Ernst Cordes; it was responsible for the sinking of the Cuba which now sits just under 6 miles away. The British escorts that pursued UB1195 included HMS Watchman which sank the submarine with it's hedgehog depth charges. Today the submarine sits mainly upright on sand and shingle with the bows facing North-East. Not surprisingly there are signs of decay with the casing now deteriorating in addition to the severe damage inflicted just in front of the conning tower.
SMB deployment required when leaving the wreck at the end of the dive.
Some 12nm from Selsey, this is the furthest West we go on a regular basis; a 45 min trip each way in good conditions.
