The SSI Dry Suit Diving Programme provides you with the skills and concepts to safely use a Dry Suit. A Dry Suit requires different considerations for safety and will feel quite different to a wet suit. There are several benefits to wearing a dry suit and by completing this program you open up more options for your diving.
There are some amazing sites and places to visit where the water temperature means dry suits are an essential part of your Total Diving System. We are all individuals and the temperature that we find comfortable will vary. If you feel the cold a dry suit may be the solution you are looking for. By staying dry and keeping warm by stacking thermal layers you can dive for longer and within a greater temperature range.
The sea temperature in Selsey varies between 8º and 19° degrees on average. Depth, time of year and weather conditions will all combine to determine the temperature. Wet suit diving is possible but for comfort and safely not all year round. Our seasonal changes bring corresponding changes in the Marine World and diving in Summer is quite different to January. When you have the ability to dive in a dry suit you extend your season.
Your training will begin in confined water/pool session where you will learn the safety skills and differences to buoyancy the dry suit makes. You will then have the opportunity, under guidance of your Instructor, to practice these skills in the two open water dives, Dives are conducted in the sea at Selsey*.
