The SSI Coral Identification Course is designed to provide you with an insight in the world of corals. The coral reefs in our oceans provide a colourful home to an abundance of life. The course is one of the SSI Ecology Speciality programmes designed to help you understand and connect with the underwater world.
During the course you will explore the basic structure of corals and coral reefs; their various reproductive methods, highlighted by mass coral spawning. Learn how to identify various coral families and examine coral health issues. Additionally, we offer unique sections focusing on cold water corals.
The Coral Identification Course is a land based speciality. If you are a qualified Open Water Diver or a Snorkel Diver you have the option to add an additional open water session to the course. We will take you out on the boat to look at some of the cold water corals you have studied. Please contact us for more information on adding this to your course.
