Instructor (ITC)

An Open Water Instructor's mission is to help their students realise their goal of becoming certified divers. You will help them discover a deep passion and commitment to the sport. The purpose of the SSI Instructor Training Course (ITC) is to prepare you for this role. 

During your ITC you will increase your business and industry knowledge. Working with your Instructor Trainer you will expand on the teaching skills learnt as an Assistant Instructor and prepare you for the Instructor Evaluation and life as a SSI Instructor, helping to deliver the Ultimate Diving Experience. 

The ITC is an intensive program, we schedule dates throughout the year. If you are new to training with us then we hold a Career Progression meeting with you and the Instructor Trainer. You will find out exactly what is involved and how we can help you achieve it. 

During the program there are academic sessions covering the role of an Open Water Instructor, how to conduct individual skills training, Acquisition, Development, Commitment and Retention of customers, entry level and continued education programs, legal and safety applications, the components of a skill briefing, demonstration, evaluation, development and debrief. You will be assessed on your academic and in water teaching, professionalism, decision making and your knowledge of the SSI education system.

Training continues with confined water/pool sessions where we will develop your controlled observation skills as well as the practical teaching of students. There are 10 practical application portions of the course to complete in addition to passing a Water Fitness Evaluation.

The Open Water training sessions develop open water site control, awareness, observations and teaching and evaluations but in potentially more challenging conditions. All in water sessions are followed with thorough debriefing and discussion about your performance to help you improve and develop. 

On successful completion of the ITC, you will be issued with a Digital certification and can participate in an Instructor Evaluation within the following 6 months from certification. 

Included in the course are all academic sessions, pool time, open water sessions and air fills. You will be required to have your own Total Diving System that meets required standards. This will be covered before your training commences.

In addition, you will need to purchase the required physical materials (SSI Instructor package) from the centre; the Dive professional registration, and course digital kit learning fees are payable to direct SSI.
