  • Kids Ecology Club

Living in the UK we are surrounded by the sea which contains some beautiful and marvelous marine life. At Mulberry Marine Experiences we are inspired by the love our Junior Ecologists have for the ocean and are passionate about giving them the chance to get involved in a practical, fun way and help them further their knowledge. Expanding on our work with the successful summer school program these smaller micro events offer them the opportunity to get hands on. Led by SSI Marine Ecology Instructor Anya. With over 20 years of UK experience, she loves nothing more than sharing the incredible facts stuffed into her head and time on the beach. Sessions will be offered monthly with additional sessions offered in school holidays. What we will be doing? The Kids Ecology Club runs over a 2 hour period. During that time, Anya will take them through activities designed to help them discover ecosystems, concepts of marine ecology and the inhabitants that can be found on the shoreline. Each session is focused around one concept/topic, and we use games, activities, and exploration to support learning concepts. All activities are aimed at children aged 6-12, we will offer different sessions for older ocean lovers. Children must be accompanied by an adult unless otherwise agreed with ourselves. Any accompanying adults are free so when signing up just pay for the Junior Ecologist! We will watch the weather and whilst marine life is not concerned by rain we do understand that this can detract from the fun. Therefore if weather is not suitable we will move indoors for the session. You will be notified of any changes no less than 24 hours ahead of the session. We reinvest all our profits back into work to help local children who would not have the opportunity to take part in activities like marine ecology, learning to SWIM, snorkel, take part in water safety events and more . We could not do it without you so thank you for helping us by taking part in a paid Mulberry Marine Experience. Who is this suitable for? Children who are interested in the beach and learning more Do they go in the water? No, these are beach based dry fun sessions. We offer alternatives for in water. Where are they held? We use a couple of locations around Selsey so will always confirm at the time of booking where we will be. Do they need to have any experience or understanding? No, the event will be delivered at their level, they just need a sense of fun and to like being outside.

  • SWIM Beginner

The SSI Beginner programme is made up of three levels to suit beginners and those moving up from Preschool. The SSI SWIM model focuses on building water confidence, safety skills and technique over distance. Classes are arranged in age groups through Aquatike, Preschool, and Beginner with staged progression to make moving up easy. The SSI Beginner programme covers a wider range of ages with classes arranged by ability. They will be between 5 and 15 years of age with the skills levels required reflecting the increased physical capabilities of your child at this stage. If these are their first lessons your SWIM teacher will work to establish trust with your child. They are always in the water, and we only have three students to a teacher. The goal is always to make lessons fun at any age but now classes will focus on skill practice and drills to grow confidence, strength, safety awareness, and allow for them to excel. Every child is an individual and the classes are tailored to match your child’s needs. They might be cautious or very confident, either way we work with them, so they develop at their own pace. We make all our classes inclusive and open to everyone, but if you have an aspect you would like to talk through just email us to discuss. Private lessons are available, but we find that working with their peers at Beginner levels can help them progress and grow in confidence whilst being more fun for them. The tailored nature of group classes means if they are struggling with one aspect your SWIM teacher will adapt the teaching techniques to suit. You are advised at every stage of their progress. Where are lessons held? We use a private pool in Selsey, we have exclusive access in sessions. How long are the lessons? Each lesson is 30 minutes over 18 weeks, your teacher will be in the water with you for every minute. How many in a class?
