  • Water Safety Classes

We all love time on the beach and cooling down with a dip, however water related instances for the RNLI and Coastguard are on the increase. Reports from 2023 show that 1 in 3 adults and children in the UK cannot comfortably swim just 25 metres in a pool and are nervous about the sea. These courses are designed to raise awareness around all aspects of water safety whilst having fun. Adults, children and family groups are all welcome. We will help each participant understand how to assess a beach before entering the water, including tide and current indicators, explore buoyancy, exposure, get you comfortable with your Float to Live position, look at equipment/toys that helps or hinders and more. The courses are run by SSI Swimming, Snorkelling, Freediving and SCUBA Professionals using their extensive knowledge of the sea to make sure you can enjoy a beach day in comfort and safety. They are half day courses, and we will provide you with all the equipment you need. If you have some favourite beach toys, bring them and we can work them into your course. How old do they need to be to take part? The course is suitable for anyone aged 8 and above. They need to be water confident and swim 25 metres without buoyancy aids. What equipment do they need to take part? A swimming costume, a towel and clothes for after. If they have a mask, snorkel or wet suit they are welcome to bring along, however we will supply what is needed apart from swimming costume, goggles and a towel. Can I have an adult only session? We can arrange for one of the dates to be exclusively for adults. Please email info@mulberry-me.co.uk for details. What happens if the weather is bad? We will make an assessment and alter the activities if we believe that conditions will not be safe. In the event we have to cancel you will be offered an alternative date.

  • Freediving Coached Sessions

We know that it can be hard to to get the focus on the your Freediving trianing over the long winter months, or without a regular training buddy. These Freediving coached sessions run all year round at Mulberry Marine Experiences and are designed to give you chances to train in good company. The program consists of 2.5 hours sessions where if conditions are suitable, we will train in the sea, but if that is not possible, we will meet up anyway and train. Using a variety of dry tables, covering CO2 training and 02 training, mobility and stretching sessions, line work practice, rescue practice, breathing/relaxation sessions, guided mediations and of course in water fun your cach will program the sessions to meet your needs. Each session will be instructor led and held at locations around Selsey. The location on the site when booking will work on the basis we will be in the sea. Any changes will be notified in email, so you know where to be and what to bring. Choose to book sessions individually or use the plan option to pay for five sessions and get the sixth free. If you prefer, we will happily run 1:2:1 coaching sessions price on application. Do I have to have a Freediving certification to take part? Yes, you do need to have an SSI Basic Freediver or equivalent certification as a minimum level. Training is available check out the course pages to see what would work best for you. • SWIM Intermediate

The SSI Intermediate levels are for children aged 4 to 15 who have achieved the final goals for Beginner III. They are already comfortable in water, confident with safety skills, breath control, and submersion skills. In the first of the two Intermediate levels they are working to 25m freestyle using bilateral breathing and flip turns. In Intermediate I we introduce new strokes at both a recreational and competitive level. Classes are based on similar ability rather than age as they work with their SWIM teacher to develop their technical swimming skills. Your SWIM teacher will work at their pace and remains in water – this allows for better correction of errors and pacing. Working alongside others of equal ability they encourage each other and learn from seeing the feedback and progress of the others. Private lessons are available if you prefer but we keep classes small, and skill focused. If you have a particular need or are working for a specific event, we are always happy to discuss. Where are lessons held? We use a private pool in Selsey, we have exclusive access in sessions. How long are the lessons? Each lesson is 40 minutes over 18 weeks, your teacher will be in the water with you for every minute. How many in a class? Swimmers are now of a higher ability level so we work with five/six to a teacher. Do I have to pay in one lump sum? We take a deposit when you book online and then the rest is paid before your lessons begin. We have an installment plan, just ask after paying your deposit for details. Do I need any equipment? You will need your swim wear and it can help to have goggles as they progress, your teacher will talk you through this. We will provide everything else you need.
