One of the things I love the most is meeting and working with younger ocean and water lovers, from those who just love being on and near the sea, to others who want to make careers around helping the ocean. To be a part of the journey and share some of the things I have been fortunate to experience and learn about in my time working on the Selsey coastline is one of the best parts of the job. Over time we have added more services suitable for Juniors (under 15 years) and wanted to over you an overview into what we have on offer, who it is suitable for and add in some quick links for you.
Our experiences and activities cover both land based and in water activities so if they prefer to stay dry or jump in we can help. Full details on all experiences and activities are available on the individual pages but hopefully this can be a helpful guide for you.
Kids Ecology Club - beach based unless weather is truly awful, the two hour sessions cover a variety of themes and topics from how they can help the oceans to eco-crabbing and creature surveys. Sessions aimed at 5-11 year olds.
Kids Introduction to Snorkelling - pool based these are micro experiences that do not require them to have experience. All equipment is provided if they do not have their own. They need to be water confident and able to swim 25 metres without aids. Age 6+
Citizen Science Day - fun for all the family these are sponsored events run at low cost. They will take part in different micro surveys with all the results counted towards studies to help the marine environment. These are not child exclusive events so you can have fun too! All ages welcome.
Junior Snorkel and Freediver Club - New for 2026 these are monthly sessions for certified snorkelling and freediving Juniors (under 15+). Events are monthly and we offer memberships to cover the training if needed at a discount. You are welcome to ask if any certification they have already counts.
Ecology Courses - These are formal certifications so more suited to the older student who will not mind time in a class. There are nine subjects to choose from including Sharks and Sea Turtles. Suitable for Ages 10+. For Juniors these are offered at the sponsored price of £45 per course. You will need to contact us to claim the special price currently but booking online is coming soon.
SSI Explorers Club - New for 2026, a subsided pool based monthly club where they can experience and learn a variety of different sports, beach and water activities from snorkelling, freediving, monofin swimming, water safety and more. They can start at 6 but some activities will not be available until they are older.
We also offer an Ecology school for the Summer Holidays, this is just getting a makeover for 2026 but watch this space as I will update here in the next couple of weeks!
